You find yourself just in the beauty of ancient place, in the center of Montalcino with its tower and narrow side streets. Two steps down the Fortress you will cross Piazza del Popolo with its shops, wine stores, restaurants and bars, offering you day views for photo shouting and night wine tastings.

Where we are

From the height of its hill Montalcino is watching its numerous green wineries famous all over the world for Brunello di Montalcino. Coming from Grosseto direction after crossing Maremma, the land of wines, horses and sea coast, take direction Monte Amiata, once arrived to famous wine maker Castello Banfi you find yourself just in 15 km from Montalcino. If you are travelling from autobahn A1 exit Chiusi - Chianciano you will be following Val D'Orcia roads, Unesco heritage, the road of famous car rally 1000 Miles. Our property "Il Barlanzone" you will find in one of the most ancient building in Montalcino, the point where years and years ago people, coming for battles from Siena and Florence, were staying. In the highest point you will find some remains of Etruscan settlement. If you are travelling from Florence after exit A1 Certosa you should follow direction Siena, continuing with Cassia road in direction of Rome.

Montalcino and surroundings

Montalcino is located on the south of Siena, famous all over the world for its horse racing called Palio, organized twice a year in Piazza del Campo. Thanks to its prime location "Il Barlanzone" is an ideal base for travelers to explore Tuscany with its numerous castles, wineries and historical places. Your trip you can start exploring Pienza, which story is connected To Enea Silvio Piccolomini, who was born in this small place and became Papa Pio II. This example of Renaissance town design is famous for its architecture, as well as, for its delicious "Pecorino" cheese. The cheese has ancient origins and has probably been produced in the zone since man first settled here. Sometimes known as "Pecorino della Val d'Orcia" or "Cacio di Pienza", it is produced between October and July and seasoned for up to 2 months to give it its distinctive flavor. Following direction Castelnuovo dell'Abate just in 9 km you will find mysterious atmosphere of the Abbey of Sant'Antimo, surrounded by numerous olive trees. Once you decide to take road to Arezzo adore The Etruscan antiquity of the city Cortona, the one of the oldest hill towns in Tuscany. Cortona's medieval streets are pleasant to wonder and you'll be rewarded with fabulous views of the countryside along the medieval town walls. In less than one hour driving you will find the most famous sea coasts under Blue Flag (the most clean and transparent sea), through which Castiglione della Pescaia, Punta Ala and Follonica. Next step you will find Piombino, the port from which you can easily reach beautiful Elba Island. If you are keen on thermal baths you definitely should try Bagno Vignoni, Rapolano Terme, San Filippo, Chianciano and Saturnia. Montalcino also can be your relaxing point passing Francigena Road following Rome.
